CurioCity Editors

Each section of the CurioCity website is managed by volunteer editors, who have backgrounds in science, engineering and technology and are experts in their fields. If you have a question, or would like to request an article on a specific topic, you can ask any of our editors -- they'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions. 
 
Get to know our editors better:

Marisa Azad - Entertainment Co-Manager
Marisa is majoring in molecular genetics and microbiology at Thompson Rivers University and is currently working on a research project that is aimed towards making new antibiotics from scratch. Aside from being a self-confessed chocoholic and science junky, Marisa is a nationally-ranked athlete. She loves to watch action-packed movies and play with bacteria in her lab.

May Cheng - Consumer Science Manager
May is a PhD student in the Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences at UBC, where she is investigating the electrical properties of cardiac potassium channels. When not in the lab, she's probably cooking up a storm, immersed in a book, or catching a movie.

Sarah Hasain - Ask Us! Manager
Sarah is a fourth year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, specializing in Zoology and Near and Middle Eastern Studies. Her hobbies are eating ramen, reading science magazines and learning new languages.

Alyson Kenward - The Lab Manager
Alyson is a science writer from Calgary, Alta. and has recently begun to manage The Lab section of CurioCity. Having just completed her PhD in chemistry, she is now looking forward to sharing science with others through her writing. In her spare time, Alyson keeps busy training for and racing half-marathons and her secret pleasure is trying to work through each month's Food and Wine recipes with her partner Jeff.

Iris Liu - In the News Co-Manager
Iris is a medical student at the UBC, Island Medical Program. Between coordinating for Geneskool, learning about medicine, and playing on her guitar, percussing her food and co-managing the In the News section of CurioCity, she occasionally wonders when she sleeps! But all is well when she takes the time to just reflect on the day by reading her Bible and writing plays about a fictional character named Cindy.

Stan Megraw - Tech Buzz Manager
Stan is a writer/researcher, a PhD graduate of McGill University and a member of the CurioCity team since 2006. As a kid he dreamed of playing hockey in the NHL then becoming an astronaut. Instead, he ended up as an environmental microbiologist. In his spare time Stan enjoys working on DIY projects, cooking and researching his Irish roots."

Christine Parachoniak - Sports Manager
Christine is a native Vancouverite with a BSc in biophysics from UBC. She is currently working towards a PhD in biochemistry at McGill, in a lab that focuses on cancer research. Christine is also learning what 'wind chill factor' and 'humidity' is since moving out east. When she's not slaving away in the lab, she can usually be found spiking volleyballs into opponents' courts.
 
Alexandra Silveira - Entertainment Co-Manager
Alex just received her PhD from the pathology department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She currently lives in Providence, R.I. and co-manages the Entertainment section of CurioCity. In her spare time she reads about science, watches horrible comedies, and is an aspiring Rock Band rock star.

Rebecca Spring - In the News Co-Manager
Rebecca is a science communication graduate. She works at an environmental organization in Toronto. In her free time, Rebecca is learning Spanish so she can travel and work in South America.

Allyson Tighe - Career Track Manager
Allyson completed her BSc and MSc at The University of Western Ontario, and is now a scientific writer and editorial assistant in Toronto. She is an expert risotto maker, a decidedly non-expert runner, and a Weather Network junkie.

Moran Weinberger - Teen Health Manager
Moran is a PhD student in the physiology department at the University of Toronto. She arrived from Israel in 2004 and will likely stay in Canada. She is trying to do yoga every day!
